Miss Lavinia Fothersgill

A frustrated spinster, who has worked as a special investigator for department SF4 at the Ministry of Defence for 20 years, in search of extra-terrestrials and in search of a man. An anxious, librarian-type, hard-working and put-upon, she is secretly in love with her boss and behind her prim exterior, passion rages in her breast. Nine scenes. Six songs.

Mr Percival Devine

A pompous, middle-aged, be-suited civil servant. Miss Fothersgill's boss. He is insensitive and unaware of her feelings and treats her with callous disregard. In Act 2 he is having a rather ridiculous affair with Flossie. Four scenes. Non-singing.

George

The bartender at the Red Lion, one of life's failures he is the black sheep in a successful Italian family. His parents settled in this country when he was a child so he can be very anglicised. He doesn't say much and is rather grumpy until Miss Fothersgill steals his heart. Six scenes. Two songs.

Jed

Jed

An extrovert young lad who spends his time hanging around in the Red Lion. Confident and casual with girls, thinks he's God's gift to women. Laid back and cool. In Act 2 he gest a bit of a soaking when Daniella catches him chatting up Angie but, typically, he isn't down for long. Seven scenes. One song.

Bobby

Bobby

Jed's friend, a nice lad but a bit of a nerd, hopelessly lacking in confidence and inept with girls. So he is rather confused and bewildered to find himself abducted by a race of beautiful aliens, all intent on seducing him. Ten scenes. Three songs.

Angie

Stunningly attractive young woman, confident and amused by the effect she has on men. Two scenes.

Daniella

Attractive young woman. Jed's girlfriend, she gives as good as she gets. Three scenes.

Flossie

A typist in the department, pretty, perky, Mr Devine's bit of fluff. Two scenes.

Battle-axe Wife

Middle-aged dragon. Mime only.

Hen-pecked Husband

Middle-aged weed. Mime only.

Any number of men and women. Four scenes. A couple of lines. Five songs.

Villandra

Chief of the Syrenians. A strong commanding woman, she shows anger, warmth, tolerance and humour (at various times!). Has a moment of doubt in Act 2 when she questions her own decisions and has the strength to change her mind. Eleven scenes. Four songs.

Zisha

Zisha

Beautfiul young Syrenian with spirit, vision and courage. Prepared to stand up for what she believes is right. initally aloof towards Bobby, she believes all men are trouble, but she falls in love with him against her better judgement and devises a plot to save him. Ten scenes. Three songs.

Daggrish

Daggrish

Dominatrix-type - evil, calculating, devious, ambitious, she treats Bobby with scorn but secretly believes he should be all hers. When he rejects her she attempts to kill him, in a grotesque end to Act 1. Nine scenes. Two songs.

Gullippa

Gullippa

A nice straightforward girl-next-door type, who has one little flare-up with Daggrish, and gets drunk in the Ritual Sacrifice. Five scenes. One song.



Omi

Syrenian child (aged around 10-13), the last Syrenian to be born. She befriends Bobby. Rather precocious, bored with her lessons and desperate to be allowed to fly a spacecraft and expore space. Six scenes.

Neville

Neville

Male from an alien species who are renowned as fearless explorers. He is hopelessly techno-phobic and crash lands on Syrenius when he loses control of his spacecraft. Very camp, he remains on Syrenius and becomes one of the girls. He is cheeky and disrespectful to Villandra. Nine scenes. Three songs.

Chorus

All female, none younger than Omi. Nine scenes. Seven songs.
