Silver

Silver Brizeley-Lemington, a dreamy and intuitive girl who believes in ghosts. She believes that she and Jack will always be in touch with each other, no matter what. When war is declared, she enrols as a nurse. Five solos, three other songs. Ten scenes.

Poppy

Lady Poppy Brizeley-Lemington, Silver's step-mother, an organised and efficient lady, who ensures the smooth running of her household and the hospital. Two solos, one duet. Eight scenes..

Brigadier

Brigadier Sir Gordon Brizeley-Lemington DSO (Ret'd), Silver's father, a crusty old military man who hankers after the old days. Determined not to be put out to grass he is off to the war office at the first opportunity. Two solos. Four scenes.

Jack

Jack O'Brien, penniless but charming artist from Northern Ireland, who met Silver when the Brigadier commissioned him to paint her portrait. Although a pacifist at heart, he feels it's his duty to do his bit, and he joins up when war is declared. Three solos, Nine scenes.

Mrs Grimshaw

Mrs Edna Grimshaw, grumpy, hypochondriacl housekeeper. She loves nothing better than to moan, most vociferously about her own health. Three solos, one duet. Eight scenes.

Frank

Frank Brizeley-Lemington, Silver's younger brother. Very gung-ho about joining up. Can't wait to follow in his father's footsteps and show those Germans a thing or two. Three scenes.

Vera

Vera Jones, brazenly man-hungry usherette at the local cinema. Introduced to the household by Frank, she doesn't keep him as a boyfriend for long. Feels she is doing her bit for the war effort in her own unique way! Two solos, five scenes.

Lucy

Lucy, a friend of Silver's who also enrols as a nurse. She is carrying a candle for Frank. One solo, nine scenes.

Cedric Perkins

Cedric Perkins, ever-cheerful local postman, who spends his time trying to woo Mrs Grimshaw. Two solos, three scenes.

Joe

Joe, a cheeky young patient at the hospital. Well on the way to recovery, he flirts with all the nurses and even Mrs Grimshaw. Four scenes.
